Student Background as told by student
“I have diagnoses of Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Tourette syndrome, Bipolar Affective Disorder, and multiple anxiety disorders. I can find being around other people very difficult. Socialising is hard and, some days, it is just too much for me. I find change very difficult to manage, don’t like it when things don’t work out, or when computers are going slow. I also don’t like it when bad things happen. These things can cause me to become overwhelmed by emotion. I can become very anxious or angry, and then this means that I snap and lash out or throw things, swear or become verbally abusive (at home).”
Student A’s EKOS experience
Through expert teaching and mentoring support at EKOS, this student can travel independently, has built confidence as well as self-esteem and social skills to engage in the local community through their passion for politics, is better able to regulate emotions which makes for a happier and safer home life, and through great academic success has secured a place at University.
