Co-curriculum and life skills
At EK Outreach Services, we believe education is about developing the whole person, as well as supporting their academic progression. Our co-curriculum and life skills programmes are designed to complement our academic curriculum, providing students with opportunities to develop a wide range of skills, explore their interests and build confidence. See some examples of our co-curricular activities below.
Life Skills, PSHE and RSE
Our mentors focus on this area of the curriculum. They will not only work with students to help them understand their SEND needs and how best to self regulate, but will also work on a life skills program which incorporates elements of PHSE and RSE. These will be accredited via AQA units throughout the year to build a life skills portfolio. We also focus on preparation for adulthood to ensure our students have the life skills to be able to live and work independently where possible.
Local Farms
We have partnerships with many farms and animal provisions across the UK. This is somewhere our students can interact with the animals as well as studying animal care as part of a vocational course. The therapeutic side of visiting the animals has numerous benefits including supporting children with mental health issues.
Music Studios
At our music studios, students can study a variety of courses, including music production, music video creation, learn different instruments such as guitar, drumming or singing as well as pursuing the Arts Award to encourage students to explore creative outlets through music.
Cookery and Nutrition
Many of our students study cookery and nutrition courses, whether that’s focusing on simple dishes to improve the student’s independence, or working toward industry qualifications or specialised nutrition training.
Exercise and physical activities
We work with a variety of excercise centres across the UK including boxing gyms, martial arts studios and gyms. Our students are able to attend weekly with their mentors to help with both fitness and study.
Equestrian centre
We have partnered with a number of equestrian centres across the UK to be able to provide both therapeutic opportunities and animal experiences, as well as courses in working with horses.
Bespoke courses
Our range of teachers and course leaders are so diverse, that we can meet almost any bespoke requests by our students, including niche courses. Please discuss this with your coordinator at the initial home visit.
