At EK Outreach Services, we are proud of the positive impact we have on the lives of our students. Below, you can find some case studies to showcase just a few of their stories, as well as additional information about the different needs we can support and how our pupil-centred approach makes that support possible.

Student A

“I have diagnoses of Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Tourette syndrome, Bipolar Affective Disorder and multiple anxiety disorders. I can find being around other people very difficult. Socialising is hard and, some days, it is just too much for me…

Student B

Student B has similar experiences to many of our young people. They had a challenging life as a small child, resulting in a multiplicity of understandable, although extreme, behaviours largely due to anxiety and mental health issues and deep insecurities. Through expert therapeutic input, teaching and mentoring support at EKOS…

Mentor Support

At EK Outreach Services, we understand that education is about more than academic learning – it is also about feeling supported, understood, and confident to face life’s challenges. That is why our mentoring programme is a vital part of the work we do.

Our mentors provide consistent, personalised support to students both during lessons and outside of them. Many of the children and young people we work with have experienced disrupted education, difficulties with confidence, or challenges linked to their special educational needs. Having a mentor by their side helps them to re-engage, build resilience, and achieve their potential.

For many of our students, their mentor is the consistent person they can rely on – someone who understands their individual needs and believes in their ability to succeed. These trusted relationships often form the foundation on which academic and personal progress is built.

At EK Outreach Services, we are proud of the impact our mentors have every day, helping the hardest-to-reach students find their pathway to success.

Mentors at EK Outreach Services:

  • Pastoral support – offering a listening ear and guidance in times of difficulty.
  • Engagement – motivating students to attend and participate fully in lessons.
  • Confidence and independence – supporting the development of life skills, social skills, and strategies for managing challenges.
  • Partnership working – liaising closely with families, coordinators, and tutors to ensure a joined-up approach.
  • Celebrating progress – recognising small steps and achievements that make a big difference to each young person’s journey.
  • PSHE, RSE and Life Skills – delivering our tailored curriculum to ensure students develop personal, social, health and relationship knowledge alongside practical life skills.
  • Careers and opportunities – supporting pathways into the future, from CV writing and college visits to applications and interviews.
  • Transitions – helping students move into new settings, acting as a bridge and support when reintegrating into mainstream or other educational environments.
  • Examination support – all mentors are trained invigilators, enabling them to guide and reassure students through the exam process.
